U14 Lions Maul A Depleted Farnham United

WRFC U14 Lions 14 – 1 Farnham United Falcons Youth

Sunday 19th February 2017

SPL Division 2

The Lions played their first home game since the beginning of December on a pitch that still had standing water, with a squad of thirteen looking to get back to winning ways, following last week’s defeat.

The squad were immediately faced with a problem as the opposition Manager wandered over to say he only had eight players.  Without hesitation, the management team quickly removed three players from their starting Lion-up.

The game got under way and the Lions soon gained control, with Lewis slotting home to make it 1-0 after 7minutes, on a pitch that offered no bounce.  The Lions tried to keep the ball on the floor but the bobbly surface left Liam struggling to control the ball from a back-pass on more than one occasion.  The substitutions of five players didn’t stop the goals coming and at half-time the score was 6-1.

The second half started and soon Luke was on hand to complete his hat-trick and was then substituted on 47 minutes.  Farnham weren’t giving up and unfortunately missed a penalty.  They were always looking to get back in the game by sending their goalie up for every corner.  Players were moved around to unfamiliar positions, which saw Liam (GK) playing wide right – and on 65 minutes he unleashed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area to complete the scoring and was then subsequently mobbed by his team-mates.

The final score was 14-1 to the Lions.  Goal scorers were: Luke 3, Jack 3, Lewis 2, Johnny, Matt, Finley, Ben and Liam all with 1 – and an OG.

MOM was awarded to the eight players from Farnham, who regardless of the score kept fighting to the end, playing with great spirit and joining in the fun moments. Well done all of you!
