U12 Warriors Draw 2-2 On Home Turf

Worplesdon Rangers U12 Warriors 2 – 2 CB Hounslow United Greens

Warriors continued their unbeaten start to the season with a home draw at Cardwells Keep today against CB Hounslow United Greens.  When your opponents arrive from London in a minibus you know you will have your work cut out for you – and Hounslow provided some solid and enthusiastic opposition for today’s fixture, played out in brilliant sunshine.

It took Warriors some time to settle and a period of defensive unease saw Hounslow score first in the 13th minute after Worplesdon failed to clear their lines.  This ruffled the team’s feathers somewhat and Hounslow continued to create more problems, taking another seven minutes before breaking through at the back and scoring again.   All credit to Hounslow’s quick-footed #7 and the solidity of their central defender, ably supported by a ‘keeper who made a number of spectacular saves today.

Warriors’ luck changed in the 25th minute when the referee awarded the team a penalty for a handball offence inside the box.  It was a tough decision on Hounslow who took it with good grace, with Marc duly converting to make it 2-1 to Hounslow at half-time.

Warriors’ equaliser came after only two minutes into the second half when the team was awarded a free kick just inside Hounslow’s half. Charlie lined up to take and delivered a pacey, high ball into the area.  He was initially reluctant to admit whether he intended it to go straight in – but go straight in it did – with Jack providing some distraction for the ‘keeper nearby.  2-2!

Elated, Warriors got themselves back into the game saw more of it in the second half as a result.  They were lucky not to score from a few shots on goal and from several attempts by Tyler, Charlie, Jack and Marc to dribble the ball over the line, Barcelona-style.  The last few minutes were the most nerve-racking, as the two teams had probably decided to play for the point, a reasonable score line for both as a result of today’s action.
