WRFC U14 Lions In Search of Plan Bee

With the U14 Lions only having one game in three weeks, they travelled to Walton today with a full squad of 16 only for three to be late, including Liam the goalkeeper, with his Mum driving around Surrey thinking she was doing the Surrey Half Marathon!

With Finley stepping up to start in goal, the game got underway with the Lions on the front playing some great football but with the early pressure met by some good defending and great goalkeeping by the home side.  With the Half Marathon completed, Liam entered the filed of play with the other four subs after 20 minutes.  With ‘Left Foot Leo’ shooting wide with his right, ‘Johnny 20 Shots’ failing to hit the target and the Bees having a couple of halfway decent chances with balls over the top, half-time arrived, perhaps not surprisingly, with the score at 0-0.

Manager Crooke’s Plan Bee was unveiled at half time, essentially ‘more of the same please’.  The players got straight into the swing of things but were again met by an in-form Bees ‘keeper.  A looping ball over from the left saw Ben take a shot on the volley, which found its way past the very impressive goalie: 1-0.

Again, more changes to try and add to the well deserved one goal lead but again, not many clear-cut chances were in sight….could the Lions hold on?  A common theme: a quick ball over the top saw Liam race out of goal, only to be beaten to the ball by the home striker: penalty to the home side.  The Bees striker got up and placed it down the middle, with the unlucky Liam diving to his right – he just couldn’t get enough on it.  1-1!

Plenty of good play saw Noah find space down the right and send in a looping cross which was met on the volley by Jack, whose shot went wide.  Despite Leo controlling the midfield for the whole game, supported well by Matt, Johnny and Luke down the left, the Lions just couldn’t find a deserved winner.

MoM was Sam Valentine in only his second game for the Club.  Well done everyone!

For the second time, great feedback from the opposition: Sean, great set of lads you have.  Only our ‘keeper prevented a whitewash – well done, hope you can grab promotion!  All the best, Mike@WaltonCasuals.

All the boys should be proud of their efforts and the way they conduct themselves on and off the pitch.
