WRFC U13 Warriors Give G4G FC The Blues
The full Warriors squad travelled thirty miles up the A3 today for their first outing of 2017 and came back with three points in the bag, courtesy of a 5-1 away win against G4G FC Blues. The two teams’ first meeting this season resulted in a 5-0 home win for Warriors – but the clean sheet eluded the squad today.
Marc opened up the Warriors’ account after eight minutes, curling in a high, angled ball to the G4G ‘keeper’s left after collecting a deftly-placed assist from Tyler. Matt came on in the 11th minute and made it 2-0 minutes later, capitalising on a loose clearance from the G4G ‘keeper. There the score stayed, despite other chances going begging, until half-time.
Only four minutes into the second half, Jack made it 3-0 with a left-footed shot, again arising from a loose ball that originated with the G4G ‘keeper. Six minutes later, Kyle added a fourth; a long, curling high shot that parked itself top left of the busy ‘keeper.
Disaster struck in the 59th minute, as the Warriors’ defensive line was caught napping and Leon found himself 1v1 against a G4G striker. He made himself big and initially got a hand to the ball, only to have it tapped in on the second serving as he was on the ground.
Some of the wind went out of Warriors’ sails at this point and the remaining 10-15 minutes of the game proceeded at a fairly pedestrian pace. G4G FC offered little by way of follow-up threat after scoring and it was left to Alex to settle matters in the final minute of the game with a fine left-footed effort.
Thanks to Christian for running the line and Happy Birthday to Adam for tomorrow!
