The Under 10’s entered three teams into the SPL Simon Hedley Fun Festival held at Farncombe yesterday. The event was run as a 7-a-side format with eight Under 10 Groups. The first three games were played in a league format, with those successful proceeding into a knockout quarter-final, semi-final and final.
This year the boys were also exposed to the infamous penalty shootout if the knockout games finished in a draw.
As with every tournament Worplesdon Rangers FC attend and every age group that go, all the boys had great fun, played sportingly and with respect to both the opposition and the referees. The Farncombe tournaments are always well-run and well-attended by most local teams, with WRFC being well represented across all age groups at this football festival.
The day saw the three Under 10 teams – Falcons, Eagles and Kestrels play good quality, passing football and most importantly, all with a smile on their faces and commended by opposition coaches for being sporting and fair.
Falcons and Eagles progressed to the Quarter Finals of their respective competitions, with the Kestrels winning the Junior Plate via a penalty shootout, retaining the trophy they won 12 months earlier.
