WRFC Chairman Wins Allianz Volunteer of the Year At The Guildford Sports Awards 2016
Trophy Day came early this year as Peter Horncastle, Chairman of Worplesdon Rangers FC, scooped the Allianz sponsored ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Award at The Guildford Sports Awards 2016 on 12th October.
Hosted by Lewis Mason of Eagle Radio, Peter received his award from Nyssa Jackson, General Manager at Guildford Spectrum. He was one of five local sports volunteers shortlisted from the nominees in this category. Other winners included Sports Personality of the Year, Liam Heath, Rio Olympic champion and member of the Wey Kayak Club.
Peter commented after receiving his award: ‘Volunteering in youth sport is extremely rewarding as a way of putting something ‘back in’ to the local community. Volunteers ensure that grass-roots clubs like Worplesdon Rangers FC continue to go from strength to strength – and with that in mind, I’d like to dedicate this award to all our volunteeers, past and present, who have helped develop our football club into what it is today. These are exciting times to be involved in youth sport and community work generally and I would urge anyone who has even just a glimmer of interest to find out more and get involved’.
