Exhibition Match Between Worplesdon Phoenix FC Select X1 and Worplesdon Rangers FC U17 Hurricanes
Sunday 3rd January 2016: 1.30pm ko; Worplesdon Memorial Ground
Shake off the festive blues by coming to cheer on the WRFC U17 Hurricanes (currently unbeaten and topping the SPL U17 Premier division), as they take on Worplesdon Phoenix FC Select X1 on Sunday 3rd January 2016 (ko 1.30pm). The match will take place at Worplesdon Memorial Ground, Bagshot Road, Worplesdon, Guildford, GU3 3RF and is scheduled to kick-start a collaborative pitch-sharing venture between the two clubs during the second half of the season. Officiating will be Andy Webb.
The red and black-stripe shirted Worplesdon Phoenix FC Select X1 comprises a mix of players from each of the three Phoenix sides who currently play Saturday football in the Surrey County Intermediate League Western and the Guildford and Woking Alliance. Players will include members of the WPFC Committee, team managers and current players with an age range from 18 to 50.
The WRFC U17 Hurricanes, managed by ‘Sir’ Adrian Binfield, finished for Christmas in the top spot of the U17 Surrey Primary League, having won all eleven of their games to date, with a maximum of 33 points. Binny recently commented in his press conference: ‘….the ‘Hurricanes will finally grace a pitch in the village of Worplesdon, taking on a very experienced select XI in this New Year exhibition match. The Worplesdon Phoenix FC Select X1 have invited the Hurricanes to the Memorial Ground giving everyone a chance to see local football at it’s best. Will youth succumb to experience? Can Phoenix rise to the occasion? Will the mighty Hurricanes lose for the first time this season? Sunday 3rd January will provide the answers and more….’.
The pavilion kitchen will be open for teas, coffees and cakes and the bar will be open for drinks throughout the game. Post-match pizzas will also be available.
