U12 Warriors Complete their League Campaign in Style With a 3-2 Victory Over CB Hounslow United Greens

In what was their last game of 9v9 football today, U12 Warriors sealed a 3-2 away victory over CB Hounslow United Greens, guaranteeing them a fourth place finish (out of 12) in the Surrey Youth League Division 2 – and only a tantalising two points away from 3rd place.

Warriors took the early lead, albeit against the run of play, going ahead with a fifth-minute goal from Jack who latched onto a precise square ball into the box from Charlie.  Hounslow equalised twelve minutes later, capitalising on Warriors’ high defensive line and breaking through in a good counter-attacking move.

A similar pattern led to Hounslow’s second goal five minutes before half-time, with Darcey flying acrobatically into the goal to try and save her ‘keeper and claw the ball back – but to no avail.

2-1 down, Warriors came out for the second half with a little more self-belief.  The game had to be re-started after five minutes, once the referee discovered that Hounslow were fielding 10 players!  With the clock reset to zero, there followed decisive performances from Alex and Adam, coming off the bench and replacing Jacob and Darcey.  However, it fell to Jack to really get Warriors back into the game, with a delightful flick in from a Charlie corner in the 33rd minute.

The clincher came from Charlie with about seven minutes to go.  For the second time this season, he scored direct from a corner, with the opposition ‘keeper fumbling the ball just over the line.  There was a flicker of doubt as the ‘keeper retrieved the ball from the ground and stood looking expectantly at the referee.  Would he award the goal? Thankfully, the ref pointed at the centre circle….At that point, Warriors switched on to the fact that any equaliser by Hounslow now would be unacceptable.  The players showed great grit and determination to keep the ball in Hounslow’s half and after what seemed like an eternity (aka stoppage time), the final whistle blew: 3-2 to Warriors.

This brings to an end two seasons of the 9v9 game for Warriors….welcome to the 11-a-side game guys!
