Here it is, the last game of what has been a successful season for the U14 Hawks, after last season’s last place finish, today was our chance to seal third place, and stand out amongst the rest of the chasing pack.

The game started quite well for us, and we managed to pin Claygate back in their own half. On the ten-minute mark, we managed to gain a free-kick, 40 yards out. Quite far, isn’t it?  Not for our midfield magician, Taylor, who had a beautiful strike on the ball to put us 1-0 up. Not long after, we gained possession down the right hand side, with persistent running from Jack, who managed to beat four of their players and then trade a few passes between him and Louis. Jack received the ball from Louis, crossed it in, and it met our top goalscorer, Freddie, who placed it in the net first time with ease: 2-0. Before the half was over, we conceded two sloppy goals consecutively, and we lost our Captain on the pitch at the time, Will, through injury.

Half time 2-2.

The second half saw a good display from us and we had consecutive corners after quality saves from their goalkeeper.  As Taylor stepped up to take the corner, he knocked it in and it deflected off their left back to make it 3-2.  What a relief! A few more injuries were sprung upon us, however our hunger and determination got us over the finishing line.

Today was my last game as a Coach for the Hawks, as I’m off to America for ten weeks to work as a soccer specialist on a summer camp in New York, before coming back to start university. I would like to thank James for giving me this great opportunity and his full support, and Bradley, whose high class training drills were a key factor in our success this season.  Also to all the boys, you should be very proud of what you have achieved this season; it’s a real success story, considering where we were 12 months ago.

We signed off in style:
