WRFC U13 Warriors Extend Unbeaten Run to Five Games With 5-0 Win Over G4G

warriorsWarriors pushed further ahead in their SYL League campaign today, with a 5-0 victory against divisional newcomers G4G Blues.  This was not the most convincing of Warriors’ performances but highlighted that just occasionally in this game, ends justify the means.

The first half was a scrappy affair, with a lot of bunching and narrow play, aided and abetted by the G4G defence keeping a high line up the pitch, thereby encouraging Warriors to exploit the gaps  by playing more long, high balls than would typically be good for them.  Leon was feeling unwell prior to kick-off and it was Adam that elected to step up and don the gloves.  He had relatively little work to do in the first half but was a confident stand-in for the King. It took Warriors ten minutes to find their feet and get on the score-sheet, a peach from Alex, ably assisted by Kyle.  Matt added a second goal, within less than a minute of coming off the bench and Charlie secured the third at 26 minutes; in off the post.

Leon returned to goalkeeping duties for the second half and was forced into a couple of saves, although nothing that had him at full stretch. It wasn’t until 22 minutes in that Jack added Warriors’ fourth, from an excellent Jacob assist.  Three minutes later, Matt made it 5-0.. Even a G4G free kick a few yards out from Leon’s box minutes later went wide of target and allowed Warriors to keep a clean sheet.

Great to see John Piasecki back on the touchline after a lengthy convalescence, ably kept in check by this week’s ‘take no prisoners’ Pitch Marshal, Andrea Hobson.  Thanks as ever to Christian for running the line and to Coach Oli Parry for standing in while the Gaffer was at work.  Refereeing kindly supplied by Michael Fieldus who was rated highly, unlike his ref’s whistle – which will need to be replaced out of Club funds!
