WRFC U12 Warriors Secure Second Plate Runners-Up Award Of The Tournament Season
U12 Warriors continued their successful tournament season with another medal, this time at the Oakley FC tournament near Basingstoke on Saturday 28th May.
Following hot on the heels of their Cup Runner’s Up win at the Mytchett Athletic U12 tournament and their Plate Runner’s Up award at Fleet Spurs (both earlier in May), the team dug deep to secure another Plate Finalist’s Runners Up medal at Oakley.
Warriors emerged victorious after winning two games, drawing three and losing none of their five group games, with goals coming from Charlie and Jack. The standard was high, with teams playing some slick pass and move football.
On the basis of their group run, Warriors went straight through to the Cup Semi Final, playing the Runner-Up in their opposing group, Down Grange (1) but losing 1-0 AET.
After an early start on the M3, a hot and busy morning schedule of matches, there were some tired legs in the team as Warriors reset for automatic entry to the Plate Final, where they came up against home team Oakley Yellow. By tournament standards, this was a rout as Warriors conceded four goals in eight minutes, without scoring any. Overall, this placed Warriors 4th/4 in terms of the final knockout stages; not a bad day’s work, especially as the team took some comfort from having beaten the tournament champions, Andover New Street, 1-0 in the group stages!
Over on the opposite pitch, Worplesdon Titans U12 narrowly missed qualification from their group but played some excellent football. Hopes of a Titans v Warriors derby will have to be saved for another tournament!
