Club Trophy Day 2015
On Sunday 14th June 2015 the Club held its annual Trophy Day event at Fairlands Hall, to recognise the achievements of all our players this season. The turnout was typically good and this year we had the added attraction of a new venue at Fairlands. We’ve since received many favourable comments – the only ‘could do better’ was that we will definitely be needing a PA system next year!
A big thank-you to Brian Slyfield and all those who turned up in the morning to help set up the seating and the brilliant display of trophies (thanks also to the small army involved in the rapid clear-up at the end of an exhausting afternoon!).
Life President’s Award for Rupert Phillips
Trophy Day began with a special award to Rupert Phillips. Rupert signalled his intention to retire from the Committee back in December 2014 and the Club subsequently approved the creation of the title ‘Life President of Worplesdon Rangers’ as a consequence. Rupert has been with the Club almost since its inception in 2001 and Brian Slyfield marked the occasion on Trophy Day by presenting Rupert with his award.
Reception Mini-Rangers
Manager Rupert Phillips and Assistant Coach Tony Mainee kicked off the players’ awards by presenting each of our Reception Mini-Rangers with their Club trophy!

Next up, it was the turn of our older Mini-Rangers, ably managed this season by Rob Monks. Also pictured, assisting with the awards, is Youth Volunteer Liam Angus.

On the brink of moving up to the 11-a-side game, U12 Trojans received their awards from Manager Andy Elton and Coach, Sean Crooke. Worryingly older-looking player front row right – must make a point of checking his registration card at the next match….

U13 Hawks received their awards from departing coach Sean Lofting. Unfortunately, caretaker Manager Paul Gaylor for 2014-2015 couldn’t be with the squad today but sent his best wishes to all the players. Hawks return in September under the leadership of James Stemp. Good luck at Uni Sean – and thanks from all of us for your help this season!

Manager Paul Sarney presented the awards to both the Saturday (EBYL) and Sunday (SPL) squads, our most successful in the Club this season: SPL Senior Cup Finalists and runners-up in the SPL Premier Division. Well done everyone!

Next up were the U15s, with awards presented to U15 Tigers by Manager Richard Angus and Coach Paul Robinies. Neil Mumby, Coach, did the honours for the U15 Lions.

Highlight of the speeches was Adrian ‘Binny’ Binfield’s hilarious account of the Hurricanes’ 2014-2015 season and the behind-the-scenes antics involved in running a youth football team, much to the evident embarrassment of Team Rep Sally Horton! Congratulations to the Hurricanes on reaching the SPL Senior Plate Semi-Finals earlier in the season.

Clare Jones, Club Secretary, made a special award to Sally Horton, Team Rep for the U16 Hurricanes for her administrative support to the Club during 2014-2015.
