U12 Warriors: Runners Up in the Plate Competition at Mytchett Athletic’s Tournament

U12 Warriors started out on their summer tournament campaign today and were Runners-Up in the Mytchett Athletic FC U12 Plate Tournament, narrowly missing out 2-1 in the Final to Bedfont Eagles Red.

The team – comprising Joe, Charlie, Tyler, Cristiano, Leon, Jack and Emily – were a little slow to get out of the traps, drawing 1-1 in their first group game to Plate Finalists Bedfont Eagles Red and with Jack scoring the only goal for Warriors.

Match 2 saw Warriors defeated 1-0 against Cup Finalists Rushmoor Community Yellows (not a bad result in itself).

Match 3 saw Warriors victorious over Camberley Boys Maroons, with Jack and Emily adding to the tally.

A narrow 2-3 defeat in Match 4 against South Reading FC saw Emily then Charlie on the scoresheet and finally, group Match 5 saw Warriors defeated by another one-goal margin 2-1 against North Wanborough Youth Phantoms, with Jack conjuring up Warriors’ only goal.

The Quarter Final saw Warriors draw 1-1 AET against Alton United, with Jack once again supplying the Warriors’ goal. At this point however, in-keeping with the Mytchett Tournament tradition, player removal was the name of the game and with 4v4, the score stayed at 1-1.  Emily was the hero when it reduced to 3v3 and ended the match 2-1 to Warriors!

The Semi-Final against Liphook United Samurai was Warriors’ for the taking. A 4-0 win, with goals from Emily, Jack (2) and Joe.

And so to the Plate Final.  It was a close call: Bedfont went ahead in the fourth minute and Cristiano levelled for Warriors two minutes later.  However, celebrations were short-lived as Bedfont delivered the killer blow from a corner in the seventh minute and there was no way back for Warriors.  However, a great start to the tournament season and a big thank you to the Mytchett Athletic FC tournament organisers for yet another extremely well-run event.
